Lockrack keeps the ‘most important’ things in my life safe – my Stand Up Paddle Board!!! As a mom of 2 – my time is precious – I don’t have time to fiddle with straps!! I slide my board onto my roof, lock and go!! So quick & simple!! I get to spend more time on the water!
Challenged by South African surfing mates in Durban to come up with a new solution to secure and simplify how boards are transported on roof racks, LOCKRACK founder Brad Foster took seven years to tinker around and finally engineer an award-winning design. Along the way, he overcame life-changing events and tragedies. Losing a wife to cancer, and breaking his neck in a surfing accident have been major emotional and physical hurdles that Brad has had to overcome to realize a dream of inventing the ultimate lockable roof rack system for all types of watercraft.
Patented worldwide, the inventive LOCKRACK vehicle roof carrier took years to of design and engineering to perfect. Made entirely of durable and weather-resistant aluminum, glass-filled nylon, stainless steel and rubber, the system has been nominated for International Outdoor Product of the Year in Sweden. Manufactured in Durban, South Africa, the LOCKRACK watersport utility rack (with adjustable bars and arms) attaches to any type of vehicle or roof bar made by brand leaders like Thule and Yakami. LOCKRACK does away with straps and tie-downs. It’s curved-arm design and ratchet system locks watercraft of all sizes, stacked or individually, into place. No more worrying about wind, driving speed, theft, or deterioration of straps when you use LOCKRACK to secure and transport surfboards, SUPs, surf skis, kayaks, canoes, and other craft for fishing, sculling, kite boarding or wind surfing.
A strategic sourcing agreement is in place with Extreme Manufacturing in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal. This will ensure LOCKRACK continues to have precision engineering and scalable production near one of South Africa’s major industrial hubs, which is in close proximity to the modern containerized Port City of Durban.
LOCKRACK is currently addressing a number of fast-growing segments in the $20 billion market for water sport gear, accessories and vehicles. This includes surfing, kayaking, canoeing, sculling, and kite boarding. Most notably, the fast-growing sport of stand up paddle boarding (SUP) has rapidly become a $20 million a year industry with millions of male and female participants and an average median age of 28. Transporting newly purchased recreational gear requires a big upfront investment for most enthusiasts. Not surprisingly, the North American market for cargo management systems is expected to grow from $580 million in 2012 to $771 million in 2017. The average price of a pair of roof racks ranges from $120 to $400 at retail.
